What’s in the WAV file
| Part | What you get |
|---|---|
| Audio | Uncompressed 16-bit PCM, stereo, at the recording’s own sample rate (48 kHz in our tests) |
| Size | About 11.5 MB a minute: a 3:24 song came to 39.1 MB, a 5:54 song to 68.0 MB |
| Tags | Title, artists, album, track number and release date, from the Spotify page |
| Cover art | None: WAV has no standard place for a picture |
| File name | Artist - Title.wav |
| Longest song | 20 minutes |
Sizes and sample rate measured on our server in October 2026. If you want the cover inside the file, choose MP3 or M4A instead.
When to choose WAV
WAV is the format editing software takes without complaint: video editors, audio workstations, DJ software and CD-burning programs all read it, with nothing to decode while you cut or scrub. If you only want to listen, an MP3 at 192 kbps is an eighth of the size and plays everywhere.
What WAV can and can’t do
spottomp3 decodes the recording once, straight to uncompressed audio, with no second lossy encode on the way. The WAV holds everything the recording has, and nothing more is lost in your editor. It can’t add anything either: a WAV made from a recording is no better than that recording, only larger.
Albums and playlists as WAV
An album or playlist link opens every song, up to 100, and Convert all works through them two at a time. WAV files are large, so plan the space: 50 songs of about three and a half minutes come to roughly 2 GB. One ZIP holds up to about 4 GB, around six hours of WAV; save any songs past that one by one. Questions
Is the WAV lossless?
The file is uncompressed, so nothing more is lost from here on. It is made from a compressed recording, though, so it is not a lossless copy of the original master.
Why doesn’t the WAV show album art?
WAV has no standard place for a picture, so the cover isn’t written in. Title, artists, album, track number and date are. If you need the cover, choose MP3 or M4A.
How big is a WAV file?
About 11.5 MB for every minute: roughly 40 MB for a three-and-a-half-minute song, eight times an MP3 at 192 kbps.
Can I get FLAC instead?
No. spottomp3 makes MP3, M4A and WAV. A FLAC of the same recording would hold the same sound as the WAV, in a smaller file.
Can I convert a whole playlist to WAV?
Yes, up to 100 songs from one link, saved one by one or as one ZIP of up to about 4 GB.
